Centering Prayer Groups
After the Introduction to Centering Prayer, participants usually wish to continue to meet weekly, fortnightly or monthly.
We recommend the formation of a Centering Prayer Support Group to encourage and support one's practice and growth in Centering Prayer.
The group meets at a convenient time for the members and this can be weekly, fortnightly or monthly, though we would suggest weekly or fortnightly with monthly Prayer Days.
A typical meeting consists of experience, education and sharing.
- 20 minute period of Centering Prayer to begin the meeting.
- 20 minutes to 30 minutes viewing The Spiritual Journey Video tapes and then the Christian Contemplative Heritage video set.
- Discussion on material viewed.
- Every six weeks we do encourage a Lectio Divina period which would replace the video viewing.
A Centering Prayer Support Group generally remains open to new members as participants bring interested friends to the group. If the group has a trained Facilitator, the new members can be taught the Method of Centering Prayer on a one on one, while encouraging new members to attend the next Introductory day which is near to them.
We also encourage group members to attend at least one retreat a year to deepen their experience of Centering Prayer and learn more about the spiritual Journey/Life. These retreats are led by a trained and experienced Contemplative Outreach UK person.
